Yes, the Philippines are a LEDC Country! This has been proven geographically, by Professor Warner.

They spend a lot of money on cleaning up the destruction caused by natural hazards, as they are on the Phillipine-Eurasion plate boundary, which leads to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. They're situated in the "ring of fire" - a ring of volcanoes, home to 75% of the world's most active volcanoes. The are also in the path of many typhoons, with 241 hitting them between 1905 and 2007, causing just over $9 million in damages. This results in the country not having money left over (if you like) to spend on things such as education and health care in order to develop the country.
