What does rspca stand for how long has the rspca been going for?

RSPCA stands for Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The charity was founded in a London cafè in 1824. Back then they were known as SPCA, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The charity was the first of its kind when it formed. It initially focused on protecting the health and welfare of Pit Ponies that worked in coal mines but soon branched out to safeguard the huge amount of enlisted service animals of the British Commenwealth allied forces during World war 1 & 2. The charity was awarded Royal patronage in 1837 and in 1840, Queen Victoria allowed the charity permission to add the Royal R to the beginning of the name, making it known as the RSCPA.
