Yes - it is official.
Satellite television service, just like cable, was unaffected by the digital television switch.
More frequencies will become available to expand their networks.
No. There will be no analog signal to receive and process from the outdoor antenna. The only signal coming from the outdoor antenna will be digital. When the conversion is complete. You will need to hook up your antenna directly to the TV. Your conversion box will be worthless as far as analog to digital is concerned.
No. All satellite TV is digital now. Some satellite TV is HD now, and more will be switching from HD to "standard" resolution. The February 2009 analog-to-digital switchover in the United States has nothing to do with HD. The digital conversion changes the format of the over-the-air broadcast channels from analog to all digital. But if you have satellite or cable TV, you don't get "broadcast" signals anyway.
Speakers are analog devices. There is no cable and connector that will connect a digital audio jack to a speaker without a digital to analog conversion and an amplifier. If the audio output is digital, you will need a compatible amplifier that has the same digital input. Then you will need to link the amplifier to the speaker with exterior grade cable.
If you have cable, you will not need a conversion box. The analog-to-digital transition in the US in 2009 only affects over-the-air broadcasts. Cable operators will continue to provide analog service for years to come.
In the United States, Congress has required that major TV stations broadcast only digital signals beginning on 14 June 2009. TV and radio broadcasting begin with analog signals and older televisions are capable of receiving only analog signals. If your TV is receiving over-the-air signals (not via cable or satellite dish) and it is not digital capable or equipped with a digital conversion box, it will seem as if your VHF and UHF television signals have gone away. A conversion box can be purchased in many stores for $40-$60 or so, and up to two government coupons per household are available to cover $40 of that.
The Sony KV-28F is an older CRT based television and was purely analog input. As with other anaolog televisions, a set top box for digital terrestrial broadcasts, a satellite or cable receiver will all work with the television as long as they have a standard definition analog output.
The signal sent to the TV must be a digital signal as well.
none of my televisions are digital... yet.
Comcast will provide you with a digital tv box that allows your television to receive the digital signal and therefore you won't need the digital tv antenna.
Digital TV's are capable of and necessary for processing digital TV broadcasts.
