yes there is a difference one is made by spicer and one is made by Dana neither are interchangeable,as the splines are different. you would have to change entire diff housing and differential

The 1996 ( most other model years ) Jeep Cherokee has either the DANA 35 rear axle or the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. ABS brakes are optional with the Dana 35 . The Chrysler 8.25 never had ABS. The front axle is the DANA 30.
