These items can be found free throughout Liberty City, it is worth driving and walking Niko around between missions, to find hidden items. Walking up alleyways can be very fruitful, there are often useful things hidden there.
Alot of free stuff can be picked from items dropped by fallen enemies. If Niko has had a serious firefight during a mission, he can often collect a maximum load-up.
