If the system was bought in past couple of years, ( and this means INSIDE & OUTSIDE components ) it will specifically tell you if you have such a capability to do the swap over plainly in your mfg. manual and most often will also state that both refrigerant types are acceptable for this system properly retrofitted. The Inside split system cooling coil is sized much different for these two refrigerants as that the normal pressures they operate at are extremely different.
NEVER mix different type refrigerants in the field. Use one or the other, but never blended.
There are R-22 replacement refrigerants available that will work without a retrofit. Still though, you will have to have the proper equipment to remove all the old refrigerant from you system and recover it properly so that it can be taken and checked into a E.P.A. Recycling Approved Center.
There are safe replacement specifically designed and on the market to keep them in operation for awhile. The newer R410A refrigerant is a good one and has some very very good qualities. It is also much safer for our environment than R-22. So it is a nice thing in my opinion. And R-22 is being phased out as you'll notice its price climbing much higher as it gets closer to that phase out date. Much the same as R-12 was done.
overcharging a central air unit system with refrigerant(freon) will cause the head pressure to be?
The refrigerant (freon) in any air conditioner should last the life of the unit. If not, you have a leak.
Yes.
nowhere
It means that the unit is low in freon and the line temperature is to low.
Never, unless you have a leak.
Refer to your manual or call the manufacture for the proper information.
There are a few reasons why a central air unit is not blowing cold air. The coils may be dirty, the unit may need freon, or the thermostat could be broken.
yes, older units could take between 9 and 15 lbs of freon most take about 12
depends on freon type, quanity, hourly rate of hvac co.
A Freon leak can cause you headaches and nausea but not cause severe health issues. You should have the leak repaired by a qualified professional as soon as possible.
no. How could you have a leak without a leak? There's a hole in the system somewhere.
