my real question is which I must prove to my mom is:
Is ROOT BEER really beer? I want to drink it. My mom says it's real beer just 'cause it's got the word 'BEER' in it. My friends drink it all the time, and they say it's a soft drink, just like coca-cola, sprite, mountain dew etc. PLZ have your say, and tell me as soon as possible what the answer is!!! (Why? 'Cause I wanna drink it as soon as possible!!!)

Historically, they are brewed beverages which is why they are called "beer" but the process used does not produce alcohol.
