Infinity Ward has said that they plan to hold no public beta. They stated that they have collected enough feedback from private betas so a public one is unnecessary.

The beta for modern warfare 2 is an invite only test of the new multiplayer. Usually consisting of only a few hundred people. I don't know the exact dates but i believe it is taking place sometime in september/october time.
