It depends on where you live and what criteria is used for acceptance. Most schools base acceptance on GPA and a certain criteria such as credits and types of classes completed before considering an applicant for acceptance. A school I just applied to had 500+ applicants last year and only accepted 12 students. Generally there are a lot of students looking for radiology and ultrasound schools, and not enough schools available to accommodate them all. Schools frequently have a waiting list full of students who are trying to get in. Whether the school will be more willing to accept students with better applications faster is probably up to the school.

Ultrasound school can be pretty in depth. I did not realize how much I would have to learn as far as anatomy and medical terminology, physics, and pathology. There is more to it than just scanning a baby and determining the sex. Depending on your school/degree you may learn how to scan vascular, ob's, general, echo cardiovascular, and small parts such as scrotal and breast. It takes a lot of motivation and practice to learn the skills in order to be a registered sonographer. If you enroll in a fast track program you will be required to complete the amount of education that most learn in 2-4 years within 1-2 years. Which means more work load and more cramming for tests as well as finding time for your personal life. But I consider it a great field and I really love it. I feel that all my hard work has paid off. This is not a career choice for someone who is unprofessional, lazy, or unwilling to spend a lot of time studying. But you don't have to be a genius to pass the courses, if you work hard and give it your best the majority of people should be able to survive.
