Jewish Answer

It does not say anywhere in The Bible that God hates homsexuals, and in fact, homosexuality as a nature wasn't even mentioned. Christians love to use certain verses to justify their need to deny people rights or persecute them, particularly Leviticus 18:22, but these verses have multiple interpretations.

Christian Answer

God DOES NOT hate homosexuals and any other person. That is against His nature because God is Love. God does call homosexuality an abomination and a sin. God will always hate sin and fight against sinful desires because He loves you like a good father loves his children and won't let them do things like play in the middle of the road or with guns or fire, ect.

A scriptural viewpoint:The Bible never says "God hates homosexuals." What does it say?

Leviticus 18:22 - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

So God sees homosexuality as "an abomination;" a sin punishable by death under Mosaic Law.

Yet the Bible hardly singles out homosexuality, as all of the following are also "abominations" that God hates: Incest and bestiality (Leviticus 18), unfit sacrifices (Lev. 7:18; Deuteronomy 17:1), idolatry (De. 17), the worship of false gods (also punishable by death - De. 17:2-5), cross-dressing (De. 22:5), cheating others in matters of commerce (De. 25:14-16), "the perverse person" (Proverbs 3:32; which in context has nothing to do with sexual activity, but refers to dealing falsely with others), "dishonest scales" (Pr. 11:1), those of a "perverse heart" (Pr. 11:20, regarding all who "pursue evil"), "lying lips" (Pr. 12:22), the "sacrifice of the wicked" (Pr. 15:8), the "way of the wicked" (Pr. 15:9), the "thoughts of the wicked" (Pr. 15:26), "everyone proud in heart" (Pr. 16:5), wicked rulers (Pr. 16:12), perversion of justice (Pr. 17:5), the prayers of the haughty (Pr. 28:9), disobedience (Jeremiah 2:7).

Proverbs 6:16-19 - These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

The point is clear: GOD HATES SIN. He hates it so much because it cuts us off from Him. Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear."

Fortunately, unlike man, He has no difficulty distinguishing the "deed" from the "doer." God hates the sin, but HE STILL LOVES THE SINNER.

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

That being the case, the REAL question then becomes, "Why is homosexuality a sin?" The answer to that is simple: it is just another facet in the corrupt gem of lustfulness.

Romans 1:24-27 - Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

The attribute of homosexuality that sets it apart from other forms of sinfulness and causes it to be seen as particularly atrocious (by men: to God ALL sin is an atrocity) is the way it "dishonors the body" and goes "against nature" in that it defies the natural intent and form of something that God created to be good: the relationship between a man and a woman. Male and female bodies were created to perfectly complement each other (Genesis 1:27, 28), and our physical nature alone should be sufficient to prompt anyone to recognize what He created to be "fitting," as it were.

It's also fair to note that homosexuality is hardly the only sin to be associated with uncleanness, lust, dishonor, worshipping the "creature" [ourselves] rather than the Creator, vile passions and shamefulness. These characteristics all apply to heterosexual sinfulness as well.

As to Sodom and Gomorrah being held up as examples to demonstrate that "God hates homosexuals:" they are hardly the only biblical examples of God's displeasure resulting in punishment for sinfulness. There are many others which have nothing at all to do with homosexual acts.

To reiterate in short: God hates the sinful acts of mankind; not the sinful man himself. If God "hated homosexuals" as sinners, He would have to hate us ALL (Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God ). One thing all sin has in common, whatever it may be...it can be repented of and forgiven.

Acts 3:19 - Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord

The Bible does not say that God hates gays. What it says is that it is wrong for men to have sex with men and women to have sex with women. BTW the Bible also says that God loves people.

The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When a person continues in sin and disbelief, the Bible tells us that God "gives them over" to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual "offenders" will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Some people say that God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person acts in a homosexual way because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

Other people say that God does create a person with homosexual desires. They point to the fact that Jonathan loved David (1 Samuel 18:1) and Jesus loved Lazarus (John 11:3, 36) and John (John 20:2) in a non-sexual way.

However, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a "greater" sin than any other. All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God's forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Some people claim that the Bible's condemnation of homosexuality does not apply today any more than the Bible's acceptance of slavery applies today.

Answer:

No father hates his children... but a father can hate what his children do in ignorance.

"Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which He hateth, have they done unto their gods... What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." (Deut.12:31-32)

"...Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate." (Jer.44:4)

"Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you... Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph." (Amos 5:14-15)

Absolutely NOT! God created man to BECOME HIS CHILDREN... the future IMMORTAL FAMILY OF GOD!

And, while a parent may HATE the things their children do or have done... no parent stops LOVING his child. A parent will DIE FOR THEIR CHILDREN! And that is exactly what God did for His Children. He died in their stead and paid the penalty for their sins, that they might live.

God has made it possible for us to sin... and to be saved from sin's penalty, death. But, only if we REPENT of our sins, humbly turn to our Savior for forgiveness for having disobeyed His Commandments, and seek to obey Him [turn away from sinning].

"Being gay," as the modern jargon goes... is a transgression [sin] against the laws of God like any other sin. It's a perverse sexual transgression contrary to what God has made. God made them "male and female." God made sex.

And "gays" have every opportunity to "repent" of their sin, like any other person for whom Christ died. Christ died out of LOVE -- not HATE!

God doesn't HATE GAYS... God hates what His Children do. And He has provided a way for all of mankind to "turn away from those ways" and be saved from its penalty.

If God hated "gays"... He would also hate liars, theives, covetous people, idolaters, murderers -- all of mankind. For all of mankind has sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. And the world would have become a smouldering cinder in the midst of the universe long ago.

God Loves His creation -- specifically, MAN. He DIED TO SAVE HIS CREATION... His CHILDREN! That's what a good parent does.

"I command you to LOVE EACH OTHER IN THE SAME WAY THAT I LOVE YOU. And HERE IS HOW TO MEASURE IT - the Greatest Love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are My friends IF YOU OBEY ME." (John 15:12-14 NLTNew Living Translation)

You don't die for someone you hate. You die for the ones you love, that they might LIVE!

Where in the Bible does it shun gays?

The Bible doesn't say shun gays. The Bible says in the OT, this sin was punishable by death (Leviticus 18:29; Leviticus 20:13), and in the NT those who practice it are said to be worthy of death (Romans 1:32). The Bible speaks of homosexuality as a very serious sin, as evidenced by God's obliteration of Sodom and Gomorrah, where militant "gays" ran riot (Genesis 19:4-25).

Can gay people get to heaven?

Although many religious people are hostile to homosexuality, and Fred Phelps has claimed that God hates gays (but he didn't say it that politely), God is not nearly as narrow-minded as many people think He is. Gay people have the same opportunity to go to heaven that heterosexuals have.
