It has decreased in size over the years, and in fact:
" . . . in December 1998 the pond was almost dry everywhere except for an area of a few tens of square meters."

This lake is regarded as the "saltiest body of water on earth" with a salinity level of over 40%. It's 18 times the ocean's salinity and has greater salinity than the Dead Sea and Lake Assal. In fact, the lake has no ice cover and doesn't freeze even in winter indicating a high degree of salinity. It is also called Lake Don Juan.

The largest saltwater lake in the world is the Caspian Sea. Even though it is called a sea it is actually a lake. Because it is what is called a closed basin, meaning it has no tidal flows with any Ocean.
