There aren't any real major ones. It's mainly a matter of opinion.

Advantages:

  • Some (much) older computers don't have USB ports, but they do have CD drives
  • They can be used as DVDs (usually), USBs, or CDs (like, for music)

Disadvantages:

  • They can sometimes take up more physical space than a USB, for example
  • They can't have as much space on them as modern USBs
  • They can be rendered useless/hard to use rather easily (scratches, breaking, over-heating, etc.)

Can NOT read anything but Compact Disk Read Only Memory.

Difficulty in updating. Once CD-Roms have been produced/burnt it is not possible to update them. This may mean that they can become dated relatively quickly.

Less memory compared DVD.

CD's cost money and they are prone to scraching and the CD drives die easly and there is not that much storage space. if you are backing up or transfering media use a Removable SD Card, USB flash Drive is cheeper and more reliable

CD-RW is an abbreviation for Compact Disc-ReWriteable

These discs allow the user not only to write to the disc, but also erase the disc.

With a non-rewriteable disc, once you burn the information to the disc, it will always be there, unless the disc is physically damaged.

With a rewriteable disc, once you burn the information to the disc, it will always be there, unless the user performs an 'erase' or 'format' on the disc using the appropriate CD software.

The main advantage of a rewriteable disc is that it can be used over and over again, which is good if you have to continuously update the files on a specific disc.

The main disadvantage of a rewriteable disc is that the burn and read speed is slower than a non-rewriteable disc.

A standard CD can write at 52x speed, but a standard CD-RW can write at only 32x.

When looking at CD-RW drives, the speed is listed as Read, Write, ReWrite.

Ex:

52x,52x,32x

The secondary disadvantage to rewriteable discs is that they are much more expensive. Plus, there is a price range within the rewritable discs themselves. A 4x rewritable disc will be cheaper than a 32x rewritable disc, but the 4x disc will be slower. There is also brand name to consider as well; just like everything else that's sold by more than one manufacture.
