When I shot my doe in 1984, fat tissue filled the entry and exit holes and she didn't leave any blood trail for 80 yards. When we found her, there were big splashes of blood sign on the ground, because the fat covering the holes finally gave way and let the blood out. If it was a gut shot you might never see blood sign again because there is less blood in the gut area to bleed out, (the lungs, heart, liver and kidney shots produce a lot more blood sign.) If you know what direction the buck headed, do a sweep of the area, back and forth, covering a half circle area, widening the sweep, from where you last saw the blood sign. If that is not productive, go to the areas that have the best cover, such as swamps, marshes, corn fields, thick brushy woods, etc. Enlist friends and family to help with the search. Use lanterns to help with the search at night, for some reason blood shows up real well with lantern light, much better than using a flashlight. Use a dog to track the deer if it is legal in your area/state. Always keep an eye out for trail sign such as hair, blood, fat, tracks, broken branches, etc. Good luck , Harrrie
