There are many natural approaches to treating anxiety, including herbal medicines, and lifestyle approaches, including exercises, activities like meditation or journaling, types of therapy, and changes to your diet.

Some key approaches to diet that show some evidence of treating anxiety are improving consumption of omega 3 fats, such as occur in fatty fish and wild or grass-fed meats, and reducing ones intake of sugar and processed foods.

Herbal medicines, like prescription drugs, do not treat the underlying cause. Some common herbal teas are helpful for treating anxiety, however, including chamomile tea, tulsi (also known as holy basil tea), lemon balm, and passionflower. Other herbs which show some evidence of helping reduce anxiety include common sage, pineapple sage, and lavender. Herbs tend to be less potent, but much safer, when compared to prescription medications.

There are several natural alternatives to medication.

  • Vigorous exercise. Run or participate in a sport. This will naturally raise serotonin levels, which helps with both anxiety and depression.
  • Meditation. Take a few minutes everyday to relax alone. Listen to calming music (like ocean sounds or water) and breathe in and out deeply. This will help relive anxiety.
  • Keep a journal or diary. Whenever you feel stressed, worried, depressed, or emotional write about how you feel. Getting the emotions out is necessary, so it doesn't internally collect.
  • Diet. Skip the donuts or other fatty based foods. A diet rich in vegetables, proper whole wheat, fruits, (lean( protein, and dairy can help. Putting nutrient based foods into your body will help the body feel physically better, and thus help the mind feel better.
  • Tea or meditation before bed can help you sleep better.
  • If the problem is more cognitive, I would suggest talking with a close friend or relative. Remember: jumping to conclusions is often wrong, you are valuable to society and your friends/family, and focus on the root of your problem. Too many after school activities causing anxiety? Working in the same place as your ex?Then find ways to limit the stress or emotional distresses.
  • Over come anxiety causing fears by facing them head on.
  • Also, if your friend is acting anxious or depressed and is in denial, a group therapy session is another option.

You can also met with a therapist (psychologist) and tell them you do not wish to use medication. Your therapist will go over similar methods.

However, if the mood disorder is biological, medication is required. I would recommend seeing a certified psychologist for proper diagnosis, and trying natural methods, before jumping into medications, which can be somewhat dangerous.

Answer2: The only way to know if you can get a proper diagnosis about anxiety and depression is to have a physical examination to check for underlying health issues and see a psychiatrist for a consultation and confirmation. Many times our bodies are run down and depleted which can cause physical and also mental issues. Until you can see a doctor there are things you can put into practice to help you destress. Some form of exercise like vigorous walking for at least 30 minutes and good nutrition are a MUST. Make fresh juices by investing in an inexpensive Magic Bullet or a knock off. Work hard to get the proper amount of sleep you need. Buy some calming herbal teas amd calming essential oils for the body and bath. Sit in a warm bath before bed with a few drops of lavender essential oil and spray a few drops on your pillow to help your relax and drift off to sleep. Do not watch tv, news and mentally stimulating programs at night. Try not to watch the news as much as possible. Practice biofeedback techniques when you go to bed by thinking and concentrating on your happiest moments in life. I went for biofeedback sessions and that works wonders. Real faith helps us to deal with anxiety. The Bible urges us to "be vigilant with a view to prayers." (1 Peter 4:7) We can ask God for his help and for the wisdom and courage to make the best of our situation, confident that "he hears us concerning whatever we are asking."-1 John 5:15.

A program of medical therapy is more likely to succeed if there is good communication between doctor and patient. Frankly explain your concerns or describe your symptoms to your doctor, and ask whether you need to adjust the treatment or simply to persevere before you will begin to experience benefits.

There are several ways to treat anxiety naturally. One is the age-old method of breathing. Focus on taking deep breaths and nothing else. Another way to treat anxiety is by having a soft item that you can squeeze to get rid of the tension. Finally, and this might just be me, but you can tell what you're nervous about to "worry dolls." They're small people-shaped dolls that you only take out when you want to tell them what's troubling you, then put them away with your anxiety into a box.
