There were many Jewish groups or organizations in Palestine while it was under the control of the British. Some of the groups were religious, some were political, and other groups were created to meet the needs of various elements of the society.
The dominant political group was the Jewish Agency which actually developed an unofficial government for the Jewish population that was able to form a functioning government when Israel declared its independence in May of 1948.
