The refrain is the stanza that keeps on repeating after some lines in a poem.
You'll see this a lot in songs (which are often a form of poetry). There will be a first verse, then the refrain, then the second verse, then the refrain. The Refrain is the part that gets sung over again between verses.

A refrain is also used at the end of each stanza in some poems, and these occasionally have a different rhythm to the rest of the poem, so the refrain adds rhythm.
