Most of these require a special tool avaiable form any tool dealer and many auto parts stores for about $15. It is called a GM/Chrysler Power Steering pulley puller.

Weigh the cost and availability of the tool against the cost and availability of a new pulley.

Either way, remember that the washer supplied with the hardened steel bolt of a new PS pump supplied for pulley installation may not be of adequate strength and get another two washers to stack next to it for support. Also, grease the threads of said hardened steel (black) bolt. If the bolt is not black (or red) bring it to a hardware store and ask for a stronger bolt with the same threads.

How do you replace the power steering pump on a Toyota?

To remove the pump you may notice a hole bored in the pully itself. The bolts are behind the pulley so you use a socket and ratchet thru this hole to remove the trapped fasteners (3 or 4). Remove the belt first. The first thing you will need is a power steering pulley removal/installation kit. The pump you will get from the store will be without a pulley and possibly without a reservior. You may also see two white plastic washers in a small glasine bag. These will need to be soaked in water and gently stretched to fit over the threaded end of the high pressure power steering line, 1 per line. The reservior may have a rubber o-ring and a small bolt replace any orings. Assemble your pump on the bench, stripping the pulley and reservior off the old pump and install on the new pump. Save the old pump you may get money back at the store for it. Any autozone will have a pwr steer pump pulley removal kit.

Your 1983 Chevy 454 engine has a loud squeaking noise and keeps ripping off the belt that goes on the alternator water pump and the air pump Can some one tell you What is causing it?

i had a similar problem on a 1990 Chevy 305 with a SERPENTINE BELT. I had replaced my power steering pump, when all was said and done it threw the belt off twice. the pwr steering pulley was mounted correctly THE SHAFT WAS WALKING OUT from the pump enough to cause a loud squeal then there goes the belt. I had a defective pump. i know C.I. is way smaller then mine but i hope this helps

What's causing a squealing sound when you turn the steering wheel to the right on a 1997 Civic LX Sound appears to be from steering rack and pwr steering pump and belt have been changed?

When you turn the steering wheel all the way till it stops and hold it there the pump is still trying to push fluid into the steering piston but it wont go any farther, and this puts a tremendous load on the pump which can cause belt squeal, its like pushing a car with the brake on a lot of effort for no result. So try this, when you have turned the wheel as far as it can go back off a little bit and see if it continues.

Your Steering Wheel is Hard to turn in your 1985 Chevy caprice And I Have A Lot Of Power Steering Fluid In it?

This is one of those problems where you need to use the diagnostic approach, what I mean by this is. 1. Ck pwr steering belt for wear, and adjust the tension so that the belt has say 1-2" of play. 2. Listen to the pwr steering pump, is it squealing when you turn the wheel? 3. Most times this problem will occur when the belt is either worn, loose, greasy, ect. 4. The pump itself may be shot, remove it and take it to a parts store like advance, auto zone, whatever, ask if they can't take a look at it for you, as nowadays these stores pretty much try to help you with everything they can to keep you coming back, allot of competition out there, have him or her explain why the pump or the steering box might be the problem. 5. Replace it with a rebuilt one if needed. jr

Where can you obtain a serpentine belt diagram for a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 2WD?

The diagram that you may see for this belt might be totally different from what your Rodeo is. Mine has a smog pump on the upper pass. side. (it could be a second idler as well). Starting at the bottom of the crank: grooves inward to the crank pulley: Route straight up to the left side of the fan pulley / down to the left side of the A/C compressor / up to the right side of the pwr steering pump / straight across to the left side of the smog pump (or idler) / down to the underside of the alternator / up to the next (or one) idler pulley-over the top / then down to the underside of the crank where you started. It will sound like this starting at the crank: up-over-down-under-up-straight left-down-under-up-down-home Ridiculous, eh?

How do you change a water pump on a 92 wrangler?

It's fairly simple, remove the radiator fan shroud to give yourself some room to work. Remove the fan belt by loosening the adjustor which could be the alternator or the pwr stearing pump or some other pulley. Remove the belt then remove th bolts around the water pump. Clean the engine area of the old gasket material and then apply new gasket sealer when installing the new pump.
