The survival of your culture and ultimately a greater number of people than that which are lost in conflict would be my best answer. As in a war of genocide. Beyond this you enter into areas of philosophical conflict. Are "things" worth dying for? Land? How about the land you ancestors are buried on being conquered by others that would kill you and take the land your family has lived on and buried their dead on for hundreds of generations? Is that then "Just land"? "Stuff"? What about religion? ideology? Communism has killed hundreds of millions between Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. They would come up with differing reasons than others.

How did europeans justify racist in their imperial policies and ventures?

One can justify anything when one is in a position of power. Initially they didn't justify their actions, as they became wealthier as a result they became more educated and as a result felt more empathy for their victim. At this point they started to present themselves as having the wellbeing of their colonies at heart describing people as in such ways as the white mans burden etc and inferior or in need of Europe's civilising influence. The USA finally played a large part in breaking up the colonial system because they were unable to profit from the status quo
