Renaissance art characteristics were really different from the Medieval times. Depth was added, and along with depth was proportion. They no longer made a figure or person in a piece look the same size as someone or something that was supposed to be in a different spot.

The study of the Human Body really influenced the pieces of different artists and sculptors. 'David' by Michelangelo is a prime example, as you can see the distinct muscles in his arms, and body.

Dualism (Good vs Evil, Heaven and Hell, etc), was something that was portrayed often in different pieces. 'Judith and Holofernes' by Donatello is a good example of this. It shows Judith (good) killing Holofernes (evil).

Symmetry is another aspect commonly used in renaissance art. DaVinci's 'The Last Supper' shows how each side of the table is symmetrical with the number of people on each side, as well as the windows in the back, and the panels on the side.
