Puerto Rico USA, is the most developed of the Islands. Being an American commonwealth, the USA is always pouring billions of dollars in its infrastructure, creating modern highways, paved local roads, freeways, a developed mass transit system with fully air conditioned busses, a modern subway system and a reliable taxi service with all cabs air conditioned and in one color (White). The airport is large, airy and modern, the buildings are in excellent shape, with modern high rise condos, hotels and not forgetting a modern medical system with hospitals ranging from average to top notch.

As for shopping, one can find the only Macy's in the Caribbean, almost every store you have in the USA is represented on the Island, as well as every fast food and most cuisine from Europe and Latin America. The Island has a developed communication system and calls are considered local to the USA and many WiFi hot spots.

The best is the Island falling under US jurisdiction allows Americans all laws which fall under the federal government as well as a top notch judiciary system with municipal, State and Federal courts represented.

Not to bash the other Islands, Puerto Rico is by far the most developed of the Caribbean Islands and amongst the most developed in Latin America. Here you can rent a car and drive to the West Coast of the Island and the natives treat Americans and tourists with respect. The Island also is around 75% white, with the rest African and Indian mix, allowing for people not to feel the racial discrimination they tend to face in the all black Islands. Further, many of the locals speak English and if they don't, it won't be difficult to find someone who is fluent or at least can communicate in HS English, which is taught from K to 12th grade and beyond.

As for quiet, secluded beaches, you will find them scattered thru the Island if not one can take a reliable ferry service to the trendy Island of Culebra or the fishing Island of Vieques and find some of the best secluded beaches in the world.

The Bahamas has the highest per capita income for its citizens of $20,000 USD per year. Each island has different natural resources and territory. Each islands has different capabilities that can't be quantified in resources such as sectors that produce a lot of revenue and taxes for each nation. Examples would be financial services, telecommunication, oil refining and tourism. There is often a wide disparity in the wealth of the Caribbean nations and their citizens.
