A router is a layer 3 device. In general, a Layer-3 switch (routing switch) is primarily a switch (a Layer-2 device) that has been enhanced or taught some routing (Layer 3) capabilities. A router is a Layer-3 device that simply do routing only. In the case of a switching router, it is primarily a router that may use switching technology (high-speed ASICs) for speed and performance (as well as also supporting Layer-2 bridging functions).

As illustration, here are some examples

Layer-2 switches

Cisco: Catalyst 2950, 2960 series

Layer-3 switches or routing switches

Cisco: Catalyst 3550, 3560, 3750, 4500, 6500 series

Juniper: EX series

Routers (with some bridging and/or security features) or switching routers

Cisco: 1800, 1900, 2600, 2800, 2900, 3700, 3800, 3900, 7200, 7600, ASR 1000 series

Juniper: MX series, J series, M series

No. Interfaces themselves cannot be instantiated, so in order to be useful you must make a subclass. The final keyword will make a class unable to be extended, which would defeat the point of using an interface.

Difference between class and interface in java?

A class is a data type. An interface consists of the private, protected and public members of a class, allowing consumers of the class to interact with the class representation in a controlled manner. The private interface is only accessible to the class itself and to friends of the class. The protected interface is similar to the private interface but is also accessible to derivatives of the class. The public interface is fully accessible. The private and protected interfaces are intended purely for use by the class implementers while the public interface is intended for use by both consumers and implementers.

Simple example in interface?

Any device or construct that allows a human being to interact with a machine is an interface. The steering wheel of a car is an interface, the play button on a DVD video player is an interface, the close icon on a window is an interface, the CTRL+C accelerator is an interface, and so on.
