Shelled or not, eggs should be stored under refrigeration.
I cook them seven minutes, then cool. I use cold water to cool them quickest, then pour the water out and "slosh" the eggs in the pan to crack the shells. Water again, and the shells just slide off.

They should be OK.
Brian stored the remaining eggs in the refrigerator.
Eggs that you buy from the store will not stay fresh for long without refrigeration. Eggs that come right from the chicken can kept at room temperature for weeks. Store bought eggs should be refrigerated within a few hours of buying them just to be safe.
No they do not have soft shells
Yes. Penguins are birds, and birds reproduce by laying eggs with hard shells. This is different from the eggs of reptiles and monotremes, which have leathery shells.
Eggs should be chilled before dying. Ideally you would hard boil the eggs before dying them or empty the raw egg to remove the yolk.
I'm pretty sure you can never be too old for eggs. People who are in their 80's still eat eggs.
Pecan pie should be safe for 3 - 5 days if stored in the refrigerator.
