If friends hated you because you do not go to church, I would first question what they understand as Christianity, since many Christians consider it to be a religion of love and charity. If they go to church merely to see and be seen, or to be perceived as righteous, then they are not setting a worthwhile example. You should do what you believe is right, and thereby set a good example for your hypocritical friends.
