Corrosion can be one of two things. If it's corrosion on the battery it means some of the acid from the battery has gotten on the terminals and it has started wearing away the terminal. The other one is rust, which is water bonding with a metal to produce rust, its also known as oxidization.

What is it called when things rust?

Only iron rusts. We call it the oxidation of iron. It is also known as corrosion.

Is corrosion a chemical property or chemical change?

Corrosion, or rusting, is the oxidation of a substance, and therefore a chemical reaction. The most well known corrosion is the rusting of iron, in which the iron is oxidised by oxygen. Both metals and non-metals can therefore undergo corrosion, and it can be by any oxidising agent, and therefore not need be oxygen.

Is rusting an example of corrosion?

Yes, it is the corrosion of iron.

What is another word for rust?

Corrosion iron oxide

Can you call the corrosion of all metals as rusting?

No. Rust (iron oxide) only occurs in metals containing iron. A couple examples of different types of corrosion are galvanic corrosion and chloride pitting corrosion.

How corrosion takes place on iron?

Corrosion is the slow chemical change a metal undergoes when exposed to oxygen. The chemical change is the rust that forms on the metal. Iron is extremely susceptible to corrosion (rust). Corrosion can begin to form rust on iron right after the Ingots have cooled at the Foundry.

How can you prevent the corrosion of iron?

One way to prevent the corrosion of iron is by applying a protective coating, such as paint or a corrosion-resistant metal coating. Another method is by using corrosion inhibitors, which are chemicals that can be added to the environment around the iron to slow down or prevent the corrosion process. Additionally, ensuring proper maintenance and regular inspection of iron structures can help identify any signs of corrosion early on and take appropriate actions to prevent further damage.

What has the author John Christopher Hudson written?

John Christopher Hudson has written: 'The corrosion of iron and steel' -- subject(s): Corrosion and anti-corrosives, Corrosion committee of the Iron and steel institute and the British iron and steel federation

What is wrong with the element iron?

You think probable that iron is sensitive to corrosion.

Is corrosion of iron useful?

Corrosion is not useful for any metal; an exception is electrocorrosion processing.

How can corrosion be reduced?

The corrosion on iron can be reduced by suitable thin layer of element to be electroplated.

What is solution corrosion?

Any solution that is responsible for corrosion of substances is a corrosive solution. Most commonly we use iron's rusting as an example of corrosion which is formed by moisture in air. Some commonly known corrosive solutions are Hydrochloric acid, Iron(III) chloride, HF, Aqua fortis, Acetic acid, Hydroxylammonium nitrate, Aqua regia .
