When a person strives to meet a goal, they put forth an extreme amount of effort. Striving means you are constantly working toward that goal and you don't plan on giving up until you've met your goal. Striving calls for persistence and strenuous effort.

When a person tries, they are just making a simple effort or attempt. Usually when someone "tries" they quickly give up after the first few times.

"Try" means to make an attempt or effort to do something while "strive" implies putting in a great deal of effort and determination to achieve a goal. Striving conveys a sense of working towards a specific objective with relentless focus and dedication.
