proper grammar is important because it is an indication of proper education and an understanding of the matter of which you speak. it is also important because people are judged by the way the speak. think about it. how do you think southern people talk? ghetto people? everyone is classified these days.

It's really all about your target audience. If the people to whom you will be speaking will be jarred by poor grammar, then it is important to have proper grammar. However, if those people will not be bothered by poor grammar, then proper grammar isn't necessary. However, in the latter case, it would be important to be able to switch between proper grammar and "everyday speech" depending on context, so being aware of proper grammar and being able to use it is essential even if your professional context doesn't require it all the time.

Without language you would have to talk to one another by means of signs. If you had a headache and you wanted to tell your mother about it, you would have to use signs, such as pointing to your head, your temples, or your eyes. Your mother would not be able to tell at once if you meant you had a headache or your eyes hurt you. By means of language you can tell one another what you see and what you think. Your experiences can be shared with your fellow men.

Grammar allows for words to make sense, so that words aren't simply plopped down into meaningless jumble. Grammar allows us to be understood. In a short answer, go to any person or post with bad grammar, and see for yourself while you attempt to understand them.

It is easier to get a good job if you use proper grammar, because you come across to the interviewer as more intelligent. It is also easier for someone to understand you, especially if the person you are talking to did not speak English as their first language. Using improper grammar can confuse them.

Grammar is what makes meaning out of words. Good use of grammar conveys meaning properly, while bad grammar hides or disguises it, in addition to being ugly. Babies learn grammar before they can really speak, so that baby-talk is structured properly even when all the "words" are nonsense. Adults whose speech is characterized by bad grammar ( not to be confused with dialectical variations!) will have great difficulty being taken seriously.

You only need enough grammar up to the point where you are easily understood. After that, it becomes helpful when learning a new language.
