acccording to Islam when a person dies, his soul is taken out of his body by angels (the death angel) ,but the person can see and hear everything but cannot be heard .. after the nimmaz e jinaza the person is buried from where the after life starts if the person did bad deeds the he will have to suffer in the grave . you might have heard that you ahave to pay for what you did on the earth and yes it it true . if you did bad things you will have to suffer and be put it hell according to ALLAH'S will and if you did good on earh youll go to heaven .. simple but untill the day of judgement comes which is also known as the end of the universe you will be in the state of "barzakh' the ones who were pios and believed the right path will be put to sleep untill the DAY comes .. while the ones who did bad will have to suffer the 'azab e kabar ' which is the punishment of the grave if you want to know more about it let me know ...
