The way to write great paragraph is to forget that you are writing. Pretend that you are talking to a friend, or explaining something to an alien from outer space, or telling a story, or describing something to a blind person - anything to remind you that writing is just talking onto a page!

A good paragraph will usually have two or three parts:

• Topic Sentence - the first sentence, which tells you what the paragraph will be about
• Body Sentences - the middle part; these sentences explain more about the topic
• Concluding Sentence (not all paragraphs will have this) - a summary sentence which restates the topic in other words

Of course, be sure that you use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. In general, you want to write descriptive sentences that give a vivid mental image to the reader. Include as many of your senses as you can when you describe something. If you are giving an explanation or set of directions, one good trick is to read the explanation out loud to someone and see if they can follow the directions or explanation to arrive at the correct solution.
