I'd rent-

think that a typical cost PER 24hr period costs at least 20 bucks (more if you add in the optional rental insurance, or want a bigger, fancier car)

Some companies offer a better discount for monthly rentals- usually they give you the weekends free.

Rental compianes do the oil changes for you- all you do is switch out of the car, or they reimburse you if you do it yourself.

If it breaks down- there is no out of cost for you- you simple switch out into a different car.

the only thing you'd have more of a cost on is if you got into an accident- you would have to pay your deductible on any new noticable damage.

i think you'd just have to see which in the long run would be cheaper if that was your main concern.

Renting something like a Chevy Cobalt would cost you over $600 per month--you can BUY a new car for that kind of money. Worse: maximum mileage is 2500 miles per month with each additional mile costing 25 cents. In your case, that would be almost $2300 extra per month for a total of nearly $3000 per month. Leasing is out because leases contain mileage limits--usually 12,000 miles. You're looking at what, nearly twelve TIMES that?

In your case, there is one thing that makes sense: buying a good comfortable car like a Chevrolet Impala or a Ford Fusion. Three thousand a month is a Jaguar payment.
