Many business startups use the local copy center to make their copies. While this can be a good way to get started, it is not a good way to grow. The time it takes to get copies made, plus the cost of the copies themselves, makes going to the copy shop increasingly expensive. Many advantages exist to having a copier on the premises of your business.

Cost Per Copy

The copy center probably leases its copiers from the people you could lease from. In other words, the copy center is marking up its copies to pay for its copy machines. You can cut costs per copy by leasing your own machine.

Speed

Look at the reason you most often need copies. If that reason is because you need to send clients duplicates or you need to distribute marketing materials, you know time is of the essence. Waiting for the copy clerk to get to your order at the local copy store can hurt your credibility by causing delays in the delivery of copies.

Efficiency

Many offices have moved to a centralized copy machine arrangement. With one or two copiers centrally located, several employees can access them. You get more use out of your copy machines and improve efficiency by making copy services available to all departments simultaneously.

Backup Copiers

You have to ask yourself what will happen to your business if your copy machine breaks down and needs repairs. You can simply go back to the neighborhood copy center. In other words, you would be no worse off than you are now; and once your machine is repaired, you'll be back to efficiency and savings.

Why photocopier is not called Xerox machine?

"Xerox" is a registered trademark of the Xerox Corporation, so the phrase "Xerox machine" literlally means any machine that has been trade marked and sold by or for the Xerox Corporation. The word "photocopier" is a term meaning any device that uses light to make a copy, and usually means a machine that uses dry ink, plain paper, and provides its copies quickly after the subject it exposed. Since Xerox Corporation sells many machines that do not make copies, and many companies, other than Xerox Corporation, make and sell machines that make photocopies, the two terms can not be used interchangably.
