Guilty - yes, but he did NOT go to jail. He and his partner, Eva Braun, committed suicide in his rooms in the High Command's bunkers in Berlin, before the USSR's Red Army entered the city. His aides burnt their bodies in the garden. There are some who question if they were not smuggled out of the country, but this seems very far-fetched, is based on the hiatus caused by Hitler's "do not disturb" order, and raises the question of, in that case, whose bodies were crudely cremated.

If he had been captured he would surely have been tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Of course he was, he caused the murder of millions of people. He was guilty of murder, genocide, numerous war crimes, and trying to over throw the German government ( he did this before he became the dictator of Germany and this would surely count as treason!) _____ He was in fact tried and convicted for leading the Munich putsch of November 1923. However, the presiding judge was a secret member of the Nazi party and Hitler got off lightly.
