Are you freaking kidding me??? I've never heard anything about the hermaphrodite thing, but she's a lesbian icon. Her marriage was an open one of convenience. There were precious few women who were openly lesbian during her lifetime. She was married to a much older man who was more like a father than a husband. She herself wrote a marriage contract in the form of a letter to her husband and said that before she could marry him she needed to remind him that she was reluctant to marry at all, and if they did it would be with the understanding that neither of them would be bound to what she referred to as a "medieval" vow of fidelity. If either of them were to meet someone else, he/she should feel free to pursue it and then decide whether to stay married. At the very least, she was a highly unconventional woman and fiercely feminist for her time.

No she wasn't; it's just one of many "urban myths". No evidence minimally serious and credible was ever presented to substantiate this idea; so in all the serious scholar biographic works about Earhart, it is simply totally ignored - as a "tabloid stuff" not worth of serious attention. The image of Earhart as "angrogynous" pilot in man's clothes and flying googles was (and still is) quite popular, and probably the only one image of her known by majority of the modern public. The numerous people who knew her privately (or ever met her as some circumstances other then working near the plane on airfield), however, specially noted that private Earhart was a very feminine person, with a pleasant soft mannerism and very certain of charisma - that charmed quite many men.

The possibillity of infertility exists. She had small breasts and this was difficult to hide in posed photos. Amelia had to hire a professional photographer to more or less control camera angles. In a different angle altogther , Sophia Loren has to Dodge being photographed from the profile, which resembles, some say ( A Schnozz like a Wooly Mammoth!- Well Sophia was the goddess of wisdom, an elephant never forgets? As of say 2003 , Amelia"s portrait photographer was still alive, and was consulted in one of the recent (factual) tomes on the lost aviatrix. UPDATE If to judge on the available evidence and memories of those who knew her, and the serious scholar biographic works, there is no any evidence or indication there that she was "physically sterile". She didn't have children; however this is not a proof of anything yet - as she was a modern professional educated woman well aware about the ways to control such things. It is also known that she dreamed about "to make a baby" but systematically postponed it because of professional life and plans. There are also some evidence that she planed to have a child after returning from her 1937 World Flight, and even some indications that she could start the flight being already pregnant.

No, if you are referring to aircraft pilots . First of all there were earlier Distaff Balloonists ( Mme Blanchard) in France) and in l903 qa Girl operated what we would now call a Blimp on a solo flight around Paris. The first powered airplane aviatrix was the Baroness De La Roche in France- license # 37 as I recall reading and Harriet Quimby in the US. Earhart was the first woman pilot to fly the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, but she was not the first woman air pilot. As Balloonists were not licensed in the early days there may have been female balloonists as far back as perhaps the period of the Civil War or earlier, Many were ex-carnival or circus acrobats, so operating at the higher levels was habitual! By ythe way MMe De La Roche was licensed in l9l0 and Miss Quimby in l9ll. Amelia did not start flyilng until about l928.

Amelia Earhrt appears to have been a tomboy. She loved to do the things that the boys were doing and she always proved that girls can do anything that the boys can do. hope that helped. :)
