Was Adolf Hitler right hand or left hand?

There are two sides to this question: the argument that Hitler was right-wing, and the argument that Hitler was left-wing.

Argument that Hitler was Right-wing:

Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist or the Nazi party represented extreme Right wing politics. One has to look no further than the fact that some of the first actions Hitler took were to get rid of the Leftist Socialists & Trade Unions, to the modern day Right Wing Neo-Nazis. However it is important to remember that we really can`t tie the Nazis to either wing of American politics.

Hitler in 1919 attended his first socialist German Workers Party (GWP) meeting, the subject of the talk being given was the "How and by what means is Socialism to be destroyed?"

He shortly joined the GWP thereafter, very quickly becoming their leader and renaming it the National Socialist German Workers Party or Nazi party to try & appeal to socialists.

In 1920 he co-wrote the party's "eternal" and "unalterable" manifesto. This included totalitarian or right wing ideology. Other typical right wing policies included: "removal" of health services for the mentally and physically ill, nationalisation of industry, expropriation of land by the state without compensation, forced employment and idealogical education

In terms of world politics, his ideas were also Right wing. His views and the views of Joseph Stalin are remarkably similar, including a tight control of the media, mass genocide, and extremely powerful government. Hitler disliked Communism & Marixism because he believed that there was "Jewish influence" on Communism, due to the fact that Karl Marx the author of the "Communist Manifesto" and the creator of Communism in general was Jewish. However, his policies were indeed similar to the 20th century Communist policies, which are extreme right winged regimes.

Hitler was indeed right wing, his totalitarian policies were designed to remove all class structure. His policies were plutocratic, totalatarian and antiliberal, exemplified by his "Volksgemeinschaft" doctrine or "people's community". Hitler and the Nazis campaigned as Socialists. They also believed in Nationalism. To believe in both Socialism and Nationalism is not mutually exclusive. Certainly to believe in Nationalism does not automatically make you right wing. e.g. Stalin ruled as a Nationalist referring to his "Mother Russia". The BNP are also often mistakenly labelled left wing by people that don`t understand socialism has both Right & left wing ideologies as do any form of governance.

A further example of how right wing Hitler and the Nazis were, can be found in Hitler's book Mein Kampf, where he talks about his marketing strategy to target like minded Socialist and Communists, by using their own imagery and symbols to do so. An example is the Nazi use of the Socialist colour red in their Nazi swastika flag; a black swastika, inside a a white disk in a sea of red: "We chose red for our posters after particular & careful deliberation....so as to arouse their attention & tempt them to come to our meetings...so that in this way we got a chance of talking to the people". "In red we see the social idea of the movement, in white the nationalistic, in the swastika the mission of the struggle for victory of the Aryan man."

Argument that Hitler was Left-wing:

Hitler has been deliberately mis-labelled as extreme right wing by many in the Socialist movement, desperate to create as much distance as possible between Hitler and his fundamentally Socialist principles. Hitler's Nazism and Stalin's Communism are not the polar opposites politically speaking, that many people mistakenly assume. They had far more in common, than not. However, Hitler suspected the Communists of being sympathetic to the Jews.

Nazi (National Socialist Party) But don't listen to the name. Hitler was very anti-marxist, but at the same time he was anti-big business. He was basically a fascist dictator, the Nazi party is considered a far-right party. The "socialist" part is very confusing, and Far-right have used nazis as an example to downplay "democratic socialism" but they have nothing to do. The side of hitler that scares us are the "socially conservative" things he did, he was extremely catholic and extremely prejudiced, like Rick Santorum.

Despite a propensity for historians to label Hitler "right wing," he was very thoughtful and intentional in naming his party "National Socialist" which is on the left side of the political spectrum. One cannot assume that the correlational aspect of categories of people sent to concentration camps explain the causation of Hitler's ideology. There are better explanations. Jews, Gypsies, mentally and physically disabled people were sent to the concentration camps as a cleansing of the population to fit Hitler's vision of a pure, economically strong Arian race. Communists, Social Democrats and labor leaders were sent because they were obstacles to Hitler gaining total political and workforce control, even though they were left-wingers. Russians, Polish, Slaves,etc. were "inferior people" sent because they were obstacles to Hitler's vision of expanding Germany's land mass to provide for Arian expansion. Entrepreneurs like Schindler were spared and allowed to flourish as long as there were kick-backs and they advanced exact Nazi needs. The most likely explanation why historians call Hitler "right wing" has to do with writings by the left-leaning media and journalists contemporary to Hitler. In the early years when it appeared that Hitler was leading Germany into prosperity (although it was mostly global economics at credit), journalist were proud to claim him as a left wing "National Socialist." When it became obvious he was a murderous despot, journalists simply started labeling him as "right wing," most likely to distance themselves from him. Current historians and journalists have rarely questioned the illogical label, possibly for he same reasons. Critical thinking rather than follow-the-leader thinking would label Hitler as left wing.

It is generally accepted that Adolf Hitler (dictator of WWII) was a right hander since he wrote with his right hand, raised it with his salute and shook hands with his right.

However this proves only that this is what he did with his right hand. We know that all these activities conform to cultural imperatives.

We need to distinguish between a writing (and cultural) hand and an adept hand. It is difficult to find evidence either way with regard to which, if either, was Hitler's adept hand.

However, it is relevant to point out the Wilhelm II, (grandson of Queen Victoria via English mother, also Victoria, the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria), had a 'withered' left arm, attributed to difficult birth necessitating forceps delivery and damage. His right hand was constrained in attempt to remedy left arm 'Erb's palsy'. What if his left hand was his natural (adept) hand. This would go some way to explaining his adult personality and role in instigating WWII.

It is also important to point out that another great 'visionary' Stalin had small-pox as a child which permanently scarred his face and was twice injured on his left arm by horse drawn carriages. This exempted him from military service in WW1.

We neglect, at our peril, how the hands literally and metaphorically handle what the world throws at us, and the consequences for the individual, family and society when the natural hand is frustrated!

This logic suggests that Hitler was indeed a 'masked' left hander!

Hitler was right-handed, if you look at pictures of him signing the 1938 Munich pact you can clearly see signing with his right hand.

Since it appears that Hitler committed suicide by shooting himself in his left temple, it would seem logical that Hitler was left handed.
