Ya he was a good president one of the best to this date.

Other than Watergate he got us out of Vietnam, and he began détente with Communist China, being the first president to ever visit there, and he thus opened up international trade w/ them

edit: He actually expanded Vietnam operations, and even illegally called for airstrikes in Cambodia, killing 500,000 Cambodian citizens. He was a war criminal. As for opening trade with China, that killed a large part of the USA's industrial base, which is something that hasn't changed to this day. Also, you get the fantastic side effects of toxic toys (lead paint, anyone?), among other things.

He opened the China Door. Which in view of the loss of a US industrial base, lead paint in children's toys and other contaminants like poisonous dog food, may not have been one of his and Kissinger's best policy decisions.

During wartime and the preservation and establishment of international relationships with foreign regimes; hands down yes. He opened China, made peace with Russia and commanded fear and respect from aggressors and national enemies. However, this "Hawk" was casted from an era long forgotten. He was unable to relate and listen to the ideals of the younger generation of his time. His ideas of a unified America was never truly received by the public due to his hostile and sometimes egocentric personality. He was rough around the edges but that never hid his love and passion for the restoration for the US.

Different people will have different opinions. My opinion is that Richard Nixon was not the worst US President. He was caught in a scandal, but he also did some good for the country. We have definitely had worse presidents than him.

He first seemed destined to be one of the greatest Presidents in history. He succeeded in pulling the United States out of the messy and unwinnable war in Vietnam without appearing weak. He successfully dealt with economic troubles and made groundbreaking visits to China and the USSR. In 1972 he won reelection by a landslide.

However, Nixon's Presidency came undone by the worst political scandal in American History. Nixon sent in burglars to install hidden microphones in the DNC offices at the Watergate Hotel. When the burglars were caught, Nixon denied involvement, but evidence was uncovered that showed he had lied. In 1974, faced with likely removal from office, Nixon became the first President to resign.

His reputation remains a towering ruin.

Whether or not President Nixon was a good cheif executive is a matter of opinion. Some think he was and others don't. Of course, Watergate did not help some people's views of him and how well he did his job.

Other than Watergate Nixon did a lot of good. He was re-elected in a landslide. He ended the draft, and would have given us universal health care if he'd stayed in office.
