It depends what you think of Stalin. Many Russians believe in Communism and therefore trust Stalin. i myself trust Stalin with my life. In my eyes Stalin is a hero

The whole "Hero or Villain" thing badly describes most real life figures. Stalin was a tyrant, and was quite cruel. But he was not necessarily a villain. He did not just want to destroy and ruin everyone,s lives just because he thought it might be fun, such as the Joker from Batman. He did it for reasons that involved him maintaining power.

And was he a hero? Well, he was a hero to many people (as stated above), but it was because of the benefits his policies imposed.

Following Lenin's death Stalin maneuvered for power by offering the best platform to defeat the western imperialists, who were trying to defeat Russia. He was in charge of bringing in new communist party members and he loved to fill the ranks with capable people. He built up Soviet industry, and Moscow metro became envy of the West. He put accent on education and development, and soon masses of Soviet citizens rised from poverty and illiteracy to become the most educated nation on Earth. During the 30s and 40s, great accent was put on scientific development. During the Great Patriotic War he wiped out Nazi party leadership at all levels, and Soviets defeated Hitler singlehandedly. The Western capitalist nations were only to happy to fight Hitler as they had a goal to participate symbolically, and if they did not take any risks before 1944, and that only to stop Stalin from defeating Hitler alone, so that they can twist history for posteriority. Millions of Russians sacrificed themself to fight Hitler, many were executed, Soviets, not Jews, were the greatest victims of concentration camps and Hitler genocide. In Ukraine and Belarus under Hitler, they were starved, beated and burned alive in churches, until Stalin victorious troups freed them. Red Army is largely responsible for the Soviet Union's courageous fight against the Nazis, sacrificing 10 million soldiers while 20 million civilians were killed in genocide, that is ignored in the cynical West. Victorious Soviet Army brought justice to millions of people who suffered under Hitler,

the Red Army bringing freedom to people of Europe with enormous sacrifices. After the war Soviet Union became superpower largely due to Stalin leadership. Nazi war criminals and colaborators Stalin had mostly executed. After the war, Russia became leader in space technology, as Stalin continued to place focus on science, education and health care free for all, enjoying improved life and well being in prosperous and industrious Soviet Union. Envious Western powers started Cold War in order to stop Soviet Union from supporting other nations in their anticolonial quest for freedom, but with little success. In 60s and 70s most colonies freed themselves with help and support from SSSR - and Cuban revolution brought socialist justice near USA home. Losing the war in Vietnam and faced with socialist counterculture youth in their own home, imperialists had to withdraw and give equal rights to other races. Unfortunately, with no firm leadership from Stalin, financial sanctions against free socialist world took their toll, and neoimperialists menaged to enslave Eastern Europe again, at least temporarily, causing living standards to fall dramatically in the 90s. Notice that I have not said whether Stalin was a good or bad guy, I think you can figure that out on your own.

Without being absolutely biased, Stalin can be viewed as both. His collectivism and rapid industrialization killed millions, and he constantly purged his own men. However, out of this evil, the USSR became a global superpower, much larger than most of Europe or Asia. It also took a man as aggressive as Stalin to defeat Nazi Germany. Without Stalin's phrase "Not one step Backwards" and his constant essence of Propaganda, the Soviets would have surely lost to Hitler's growing empire. So yes, he was evil, but he did some heroic things, but, I would call him an evil hero. Cheers
