The book isn't specific about that.

No Lennie is not black. Although the book does not specifically address that, Crooks is the only black person working on the ranch out of the people mentioned in the book. That is why he is isolated from the rest of the workers. If Lennie was black he would have also had to deal with the same things Crooks did.

im pretty sure i saw in the book that curley called someone a racial slur. i thought he was talking about lennie, that is why i thought that he was black.
