An answer from The Bible is that since Adam and Eve sinned in Genesis 3, and since Cain sinned in Genesis 4, we can not say they were created morally perfect. Nor is there biblical evidence that they were created physically perfect, except that the Book of Genesis attributes remarkably long lifespans to the early humans. The fact that no one ever got sick or died prematurely of disease presumably means that God had not yet created viruses, bacteria and parasites. If they never died of accident or misadventure, then the persons portrayed in the Bible avoided any work that involved risk, and successfully placated the warring nations around them.
As to what really happened, which is the alternative answer to this question, the human race is no more perfect than its evolutionary predecessors, although of course somewhat more intelligent. We use that intelligence for both good and evil, but for our ancestors it was the edge that allowed them to dominate the planet.
