no they had dignity

It's dependent on the variations that you are thinking of. Most people associate Adam and Eve with Christianity but they exist within Judaism and since Christianity is a sub-cult of Judaism, I'm inclined to say yes.

Adam was the first human being while Abraham was the first Jew. Adam was neither one. He may have been a monotheist, but he certainly wasn't a Jew. He was the chief of a Nostratic tribe who lived at the source of the Euphrates River in around 7600 BC. He was far from being the first human being; millions of people had preceded him. But he was the first recorded person of our culture. His story, in much altered form, exists to this very day. His people had come from Ethiopia to Asia Minor in 10,000 BC. In 9000 BC, this people (the ancestors of the Afro-Asiatics, the Indo-Europeans, the Uralics, the Altaics, and others) built the first city ever in southern Turkey, which was excavated a few years ago. Adam lived much later than this. When a severe drought occured in his area, Adam led his tribe to the mouth of the Halys River on the southern shore of the Black Sea. There they dwelt for a long time, until a catastrophic Flood in 7300 AD drove them to Armenia. Until this time, the tribe had been known as Adam; after this, it was called Noah. Among the many descendants of Noah were the Indo-Europeans (who conquered Europe in about 7000 BC) and the Hebrews, who started around 1900 BC at Haran in southern Turkey. Abraham was the founder of the Hebrews, and probably the founder of the form of montheism that turned into the great Western religions much later.

Jewish AnswerFrom the Jewish perspective, Adam and Eve weren't the first people, however, they were the first people to have souls and freewill.

Technically no, since the Torah had not yet been given.

Adam and Chava (Eve) strived with all of their might to keep God's will. They were supremely righteous their entire lives and are buried in the same place as Abraham.

Biblical thought:

In the beginning of creation, they were simply 'humans'.

The word "Jew" is believed to have originally come from the descendants of 'Judah', but came to apply to ALL the tribes of Israel (Ezra 4:12), the descendants of Jacob("Israel"Genesis 32:27+28).

Abraham was a 'friend of God'(Isaiah 41:8/James 2:23) and a faithful man with whom God made a covenant whereby "ALL peoples of the earth will be blessed.." (Genesis 22:18/Galatians 3:14/Malachi 3:1). This promise would be fulfilled through his son, Isaac (Genesis 17:19+21). Issac's son, Jacob, had twelve sons, who became the heads of the twelve tribes of Israel...the Jews...through whose lineage the Messiah would come, who would save ALL faithful mankind (Daniel 9:25/Deuteronomy 18:18/(Ruth 4:21+22/Isaiah 11:1-10)Matthew 12:21/Galatians 3:16+29/ Matthew 1:1/John 3:16). Adam and Eve lived long before Jacob was born(Luke 3:34+38), or the nation of Israel was formed, so were not 'Jews'.

One thought:

No. According to The Bible, Adam did not belong to any 'one group' of humans, but was the 'father' of all the nations.(Acts 17:26) The term "Jew" is believed to have originally meant the descendants of Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The term later came to mean ALL the tribes of Israel, but at the time of Adam, there were no tribes. Judah, infact, was not born until 23 generations after Adam (Luke 3:33-38)

Additonal Comment:

Judah was the 4th son of Israel and holder of the 'sceptre promise.' It wasn't until the Kingdom of Israel split into two (northern/southern) that the term 'Jew' is first noted in the Scriptures in 2 Kings 16:6. Many translations avoid using the term or nickname Jew as today perhaps as then, it is more ofter a derogatory term to be avoided hence you may read 'men of Judah' or 'house of Judah.' The strange thing is as you continue reading 2 Kings 16, when Jew is 1st mentioned, they are fighting the Syrians and ISRAEL, asking Assyria for help.

Though the above statement is correct in that today it 'implies' all of Israel, it is incorrect historically and genealogically. The nation-state of 'Israel' is predominantly the House of Judah which is comprised of some of the Levites and the tribes of Benjamin and Simeon and perhaps others unknowingly :)

A good rule of thumb is: All Jews are Israelites but NOT all Israelites are Jews.

No. Adam and Eve were NOT 'born Jews'. They were not descendants of Judah or members of the twelve tribes of Israel, since there were no tribes yet in existence. Rather, the Jews(and all of us) are descendants of Adam and Eve.

The nation of Israel, made up of 12 tribes (or families) was divided up into two groups for a time(two-tribesruled over by Rehoboam(Solomon's son), and ten-tribesruled over by Jeroboam). The two-tribe kingdom was made up of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, and Judah's descendants were initially called 'Jews' (Ezra 4:12). In time, the term was applied to the remnant of all the tribes (the nation of Israel) returning from the exile to Babylon(Ezra 4:12/Ezra 6:7/Nehemiah 1:2/Nehemiah 5:17), and eventually to the entire Hebrew nation to distinguish them from the gentiles(non-Jews)(Esther 3:6/Esther 9:20). The term 'Jew' was not used in the Bible until after the fall of the ten-tribe kingdom of Israel(1 Kings 16:6/1 Kings 25:25).

The major Abrahamic religions in chronological order of founding are Judaism (the base of the other two religions) in the 7th century BCE, Christianity in the 1st century CE, and Islam in the 7th century CE. so, yeah - nice try.
