A bullet is simple a projectile normally fired from a firearm (Guns) that has one per pose which is to put a hole in what ever it is fired at.
Guns first came about in the 13th century from a country called China. It was not until 1818 that the first fully operation gun was ever made and fired. The guns reliability when used in action was not considered reliable but it was the start of the first fully operational guns.

I believe it came from the Battle of New York during the Revolutionary War. While the Colonial Army under Nathaniel Greene occupied the Palisades at Fort Lee ( named after Charles Lee ) and Israel Putnam occupied Fort Washington on the New York side of the Hudson River, Henry Knox positioned his cannons at Battery Park facing the Hudson. His effort was to delay the British Navy under Admiral Howe from advancing on the colonial positions. His guns were facing the wrong direction as Howe went up the East River bypassing the guns. Yes because a group of cannons is called a battery but I don't think they fired the wrong way.
The largest guns ever mounted were 460mm (18 in) guns used on the Japanese Yamato class battleships which fired 3,219 lb projectile up to a maximum range of 42,000 meters

Machine guns, as we think of them today, were invented by Hiram Maxim. There were earlier battery guns (many barrels firing at once) but the Maxim machine gun was the first to use the energy of a fired cartridge to operate the gun.
