I had bleeding very early in my pregnancy. I went to the ER and they done a routine ultrasound and it showed that i was pregnant with twins. It's very possible that it's implantation bleeding. ALOT of pregnant women experience bleeding and its completely normal. If you begin to pass clots, then i'd really worry.

I'm currently 20 weeks with my twins and just experienced bleeding again and really got worried, but everything was fine. Some women bleed their whole pregnancies!

I've had low progesterone with my last four pregnancies and nearly miscarried my now 4 year old son because it was so low. You should have a doctor check your progesterone level and see if you need to take some during your first trimester -after that the placenta produces enough to support the pregnancy. Alot of doctors don't know or do this for some reason so stand up for yourself and your baby if you're having trouble getting someone to listen and help. I have had anywhere from spotting off and on to bleeding that I thought was a normal period (with my 4 year old) it started around 5 weeks and I took prometrium (progesterone) through 10-12 weeks with each of them and all turned out fine so far -I'm due in March and since that in this pregnancy there's been no problems again. Make sure your doctor monitors your levels if you do take it -that first time it got way too high, but with more checks of it in the next pregnancies it went well.

Bleeding in early pregnancy can be worrying, so it's only natural that you're concerned about your baby. Rest assured that bleeding in the early days is common and unlikely to harm your baby. About a quarter of mums-to-be experience some bleeding in the first three months of pregnancy.

A number of things could be causing your light bleeding. You may be experiencing breakthrough bleeding. This happens when pregnancy hormones cover up your usual menstrual cycle, but that cycle continues for a while. So, around the time you would have had a period if you weren't pregnant, you may get a little bleeding. You may have this bleeding more than once.

Another cause of light bleeding is the fertilised egg implanting in your uterus (womb). Implantation bleeding is thought to occur at about the same time as your period would have been due. This makes it hard to tell implantation from breakthrough bleeding.

Your bleeding may be caused by your cervix softening, forming a raw area. This is called cervical erosion or ectropion. Bleeding can also be linked to vaginal or cervical infection or a harmless growth called a polyp. These three conditions could all result in bleeding if your cervix has been chafed, for example, when you have sex.

That would be implantation bleeding if you are in fact pregnant. This happens when the egg is attaching itself to the uterus. Any abnormal or heavy bleeding should be checked with your doctor.

Light bleeding is quite normal as the uterus stretches and the fertilised egg implants in the womb lining

What causes decidual bleeding during pregnancy?

Decidual BleedingOne of the most common causes of period-like bleeding during pregnancy is called decidual bleeding. Sometimes, during pregnancy, your body's hormones can get out of whack, causing you to lose parts of the lining of your uterus. This is especially common in the early stages of pregnancy, before the lining has completely attached to the placenta. While it can be troublesome to think about shedding part if your uterine lining, decidual bleeding is generally not thought to be a health threat to you or your baby. There are a number of other reasons why bleeding during pregnancy may occur. Most of them present little health risk to you and your little one. However, bleeding can sometimes indicate a complication with your pregnancy. If you are pregnant, it is important to be aware of your bleeding. If you experience any abnormal bleeding at any point during your pregnancy, contact your health care provider immediately.

Will decidual bleeding be shorter than your normal period?

During early pregnancy, hormonal changes can cause ovulation or a thickening of the uterine lining that sheds, in spite of the presence of a fertilized egg. When this happens around the time of your normal period, it is called decidual bleeding and the amount of blood can be the same as a period. It occurs in about 30% of pregnancies and while bleeding in early pregnancy is always alarming, most woman go on to have a normal pregnancy. Light bleeding or spotting, before your period is due, may be implantation bleeding, again harmless. Always notify your doctor when you experience any bleeding during pregnancy.
