Alcohol can cause liver damage, as well as inhibit hormones that are important to your survival.

The liver damaged is caused by there being too much alcohol for the liver to process and cleanse from the blood. Since alcohol causes conditions which are unfavorable to the body.

The hormones it inhibits are responsible for controlling the bodies water content. If it is inhibited, the body is unable to stay hydrated.

Alcohol also - of course - inhibits your sense of reason. :]
