If you are referring to colas, Coke, Pepsi, etc., the dark color mainly comes from caramel coloring. There are other ingredients, which in combination add to the color, but the primary coloring agent is the caramel coloring.
Well, the kind of alcohol you drink is called ethanol and has the molecular formula C2H5OH.However, if you mean in an alcoholic beverage, you're going to have:- ethanol- water- sugar if it's a liqueur- all the various cogeners (flavor molecules) associated with what the alcohol was distilled from- oak tannins if it is tequila, whiskey, brandy or rum- caramel coloring if it's mass produced dark liquor like Cuervo Gold or Bacardi Dark.- and for liqueurs, you'll also have whatever fruit, herb, spice, essence, etc. that they added to go along with whatever taste they were trying to get.
sprite has no color becuase it has caramel food coloring and the phosphic acid to makes it have no coloring.

That's extremely rare but yes. My brother is allergic to food coloring. So look into that.
"Soda" has a lot of different meanings, and most of them refer to things that are not brown. Soda in the sense of "carbonated beverage" is not always brown, and those that are brown are generally that color because that's what people expect. Caramel coloring is added to them for marketing reasons.
Caramel coloring or E150 is the only coloring agent that is used in soft drinks and in cosmetics (Shampoo, Creams and lotions).
NO!! Malt Vinegar and Caramel Coloring ruin it for us. :-(
