amendment 15

amendment 15

While the 15th Amendment is what prohibited the states from using race as a means to deny the right to vote. The times being what they were, though, in no way did the 15th create equal - or even open - access to voting. Poll taxes were one of the major ways local governments disenfranchised minorities and the poor; poll taxes were made illegal by the 24th Amendment. Therefore, it was actually a combination of the 15th and 24th Amendments that franchised black citizens.

Do you capitalize thee when referring to god?

Yes, you do. That is right; the normal spelling convention is to capitalize all pronouns that refer to God, which includes the pronoun thee, if you are addressing God. Nearer, my God, to Thee.

How does CAFOD reflect Christian belief?

In the last part of the 25th chapter of St. Matthew's Gospel, he gives an account of the Judgment of the Nations (verses 31-46), on how we are judged. I'm not sure if this actual Bible account inspired them, but the Christian teaching based on it, certainly. "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the King will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Do 'thee' and 'the' mean the same thing?

They are different words. Thee is an archaic pronoun meaning 'you' but is only used in the singular and when the person is the object of a verb or preposition. "I love thee and nobody else" is right, but "I love all of thee" is wrong, because thee can only be one person, and "Thee love me" is also wrong, because thee cannot be the subject of a sentence or phrase. The is known as a determiner, or definite article, as in the blue one or the best one the only one, and happens to be the word used more than any other in the English language.

Why is sharing important in Catholic religion?

Christianity is not a matter of "me and Jesus". Christianity is a matter of the entire human race, which Our Blessed Lord redeemed on the cross. God is not someone that we can reach out and touch, but Our Blessed Lord made that "reaching out and caring for Him" how we are going to be saved. Thus, we will be judged on our actions towards others, we are to treat every single human being in front of us as Jesus. He explains this in Matthew 25:31-46:Matthew 25:31-46Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (RSVCE) The Judgment of the Nations31 "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. 34 Then the King will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' 37 Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? 39 And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' 40 And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' 44 Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' 45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
