Versions Red, Blue and Yellow are the first generation.
Gold, Silver and Crystal are the second.
The third one has Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. Also, the Fire Red and Leaf Green remakes were released during the third generation.
The fourth has Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. And Heart Gold and Sould Silver for remakes.
Fifth had sequels instead of a third version. So, it is Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.
The sixth is the current one, it is composed at the moment by X and Y. The Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remakes are set to be released by november and are also part of the sixth generation.

∙ 11y agoIn every Pokemon game up to Ruby and Sapphire, you must use what were called "Link Cables". They were manufactured specifically for Game Boy and Game Boy Color consoles. The Game Boy Advance has a different Link Cable to use for it. FireRed and LeafGreen were the first Pokemon games to use Wireless Adapters for trading. Anyways, hook up with a friend, and go to any Pokemon Center on the second floor and you will find a trading center. If you don't have a Link Cable, GameStop may have them, as well as EBay.
