What are astronomers predictions about the future of the universe?

Some scientists say that the universe will stop growing once it has finished growing, some say it will explode and some say it will start to shrink.

That is a good answer but there is a mathematical constant which explains this.

Q=the density of matter in the universe. If the universe continues to expand, then Q<1

.If it shrinks ,then Q>1, if it continues to change sizes...........but never actually finishes it's size then Q=1.

Some of the predictions are that black holes will eventually swallow a large part of galaxies; another part of each galaxy will fly out into space (i.e., stars will escape from the galaxies); a time will come when there is not enough material to form new stars, and old stars will stop shining; after a very, very long time, black holes will eventually evaporate.

The two leading theories are the big crunch and the cold death. According to the Big Crunch theory, the expansion of the universe will slow down because of the mass it contains. The expansion will then stop and be replaced by contraction. The evolution of the universe will go into reverse until it collapses into a singularity. The main alternative theory is that the universe will continue to expand forever and as it does, the galaxies will move further apart. When stars die out there will not be sufficient density of matter to start of the next generation of stars.
