At Colossians 3:5 (New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures) it says - "Deaden, therefore your body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." A covetous person could put all of his time, energy and focus on something that they do not possess. Colossians says that this is a form of idolatry, because the thing you are coveting takes your focus away from worshipping God fully and in turn becomes an idol to you. For example, a person who is determined to become rich and covets the life style of a rich person will devote his entire life and do whatever it takes to attain his goal. The Bible has many principles that we can benefit from if we put them into practice in our life.
