== == An internship is an agreement between you and a company or organization for a fixed period of time, such as a semester or quarter. You agree to work for them and they agree to mentor and teach you; internships can offer valuable insight into a particular field or career. Most internships are unpaid but some offer a low wage; many internships are organized through colleges and high school programs. Many companies go on to hire their successful interns full time.

Internships are generally work-based learning experiences involving students who have attended extensive school-based preparation relating to a career objective. Internships are usually one-time work experiences which may or may not lead to course credit and/or pay. For example: Medical interns have doctors to mentor them and help them gain experience, but they also do real work in the hospitals.

Internships are career-based learning experiences that involve a "real world" work atmosphere and normal workplace expectations. they're associated with, but totally different from, volunteering and an actual job. Volunteering is effective however might not be career-related. employment might limit the experiences to only those job tasks appointed.

An internship is:

Relatively short term - could also be anyplace between a number of weeks to a semester.

Paid or unpaid - internships are usually unpaid because of the limited timeframe involved, the reduced expectations because of the increased learning opportunities, and the nature and sort of business. expertise gained from an internship will outweigh the shortage of pay. an internship could be a career investment.

Variable in schedule - interns are listed students, that the schedule varies supported the intern's availability.

Frequently project-based - internships usually focus on a particular project and will involve a class assignment (paper, presentation, completion of a class project).

Career-specific and associated with the student's program of study and/or career interests.

Adjustable in expectations - compared to a "regular worker," expectations for an intern is also adjusted supported course-work the student has completed and also the student's learning objectives for the internship.

Internships ar not:

Provided at the expense of or in place of a daily or potential worker.

Equivalent to a part-time job because part-time job learning is usually limited to specific tasks you perform and may not relate to your program of study or career goals.

A "break" from class because you're expected to put your best effort into an internship so as to induce as much as doable out of the expertise.

The "dumping ground" for tasks not needed by others. Internships give challenging expertises that modify you to apply what you've learned in your courses and increase that knowledge through experience.
