Quantum physics is the study of the motion of particles, specifically the study of the behavior of subatomic particles such as photons, quarks, neutrons, leptons and about 20 others. These particles make up the basic atom and are responsible for the interactions of atoms and the basic properties of matter and energy.
Quantum physics is the area of physics that focus on things that are on the atomic scale. Quantum physics, or quantum mechanics, explains why atoms, electrons, etc. act the way they do specifically on that really small scale.

Quantum physics are the laws used to govern the goings on in the realm of the micro because Newtonian physics (the old physics) do not apply to this realm. Quantum mechanics are based on statistics and group behavior because it can be predicted how many particles in a group will behave a certain way but it is impossible, at least for now, to predict which particles in a group will behave that way.

I'm not a physicist, so I can't give a precise definition, but it basically means that everything in nature is discrete. For example the physicist Max Planck demonstrated that there is no unit of time less than what is now called a 'Planck Interval' (can't remember back to school physics but it's like a billionth of a billionth of a second or something). It means that time 'jumps' in intervals of this length and nothing happens in between - very hard to explain. Imagine going up a flight of stairs. You can only be standing on one step at a time - you can't stand in between steps. Time is like that, but the steps are incredibly short lengths of time.

The same goes for everything else including matter. The state of everything is discrete - it goes in steps. So when you get right down to the atomic level, things get pretty weird. An atom, or the parts of it, could IN THEORY just 'jump' from one state to another at random. IN THEORY, all the atoms in your body could change state at once and you could, for example, turn completely to aluminium.

That is a very bad explanation by the way, you might be better off trying some physics or cosmology forums.
