Scattered thunderstorms are thunderstorms in the 30-40% chance category. They are generally weak, widespread short thunderstorms that turn on and off due to a storm system moving over the area.

Thunderstorm

Isolated and scattered both refer to areal coverage. Isolated refers to hit and miss. We don't expect that many storms. That might equate to a 20-30% chance for rain at any one location. ... The other category (scattered) would be numerous. When we forecast numerous thunderstorms, the radar should be pretty full.
