In my opinion, there are a couple of choice Photography gigs that I personally would love to have. The first one- like any red-blooded man would Love is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition [if I were single... my wife might see this :)] The other job is a staff photographer for National Geographic. Last time I checked a few years ago (if I remember correctly) they make around $50,000.00 or $60,000.00 a year (I think something like $40,000.00 a year as a retainer) as a base salary. Over and above that, they get travel allowances and danger-pay depending on where they are sent to and what the assignment is. I wouldn't hold out for a job with national geographic though, they usually only have 3 or 4 staff photographers, but they do buy frelance work. Other good jobs include staff photographer for popular magazines like Time or fashion magazines. Other photographers make very good livings freelancing and selling their work to different publications.
